Liz H. – Guitar Tutor
Liz H is a classical and electric guitarist, composer/arranger, singer-songwriter, sitarist and multi-instrumentalist based in NYC. She is a second year Master of Music Classical Guitar student at Mannes College, studying with Michael Newman. She earned a Bachelor of Music Classical Guitar Performance degree at Queens College’s Aaron Copland School of Music, studying with William Anderson.
In various projects and as a solo performer, Liz has performed at venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Brookfield Place, Italian Academy, Casa da Música, Xalapa Symphony Hall, festivals including CMJ, Braincave, Coz Village Fest, Internacional Festival Camerata 21, ACDA, EarsOpen, New Sounds Live and FMLY, radio stations including WFMU, WNYC and WHFR, and toured internationally in nine countries. She has recorded eight full-length albums and eight eps, self-released and released by Don Giovanni Records, Mouca and Acuarela.
Recent performances include flute and guitar duos at the Morgan Library, solo performances in Russia & Latvia, and theorbo and guitar in Mannes’ production of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. Liz has recorded and performed on a variety of stringed instruments including banjo, sitar, Hawaiian guitar, theorbo and tiple, including banjo, classical, steel string and Hawaiian guitar at Kupferberg Center for the Arts’ 2015 production of The Threepenny Opera. She has worked with conductors including Maurice Peress and Alan Pierson, performed in master classes for Scott Tennant, Richard Savino, and Arthur Kampela among others and has premiered works by David Lang, Robert Martin, Sam Hoyland and more. She has studied composition with David Loeb and Jeff Nichols. She is experienced in accompanying singer(s) in a duo and in ensembles of various sizes. Her group UFOs composed the soundtrack to original film In Motion in 2012. Music composed by her group Fables was performed to by dance company Third Rail Projects in 2012.
Liz founded her first band the Beach Arabs (now Liz H.) in 2010. They self-released and recorded their debut album, Under The Whale, in 2011 and studio-recorded their sophomore 2013 album, Wild Movement, released by European label Mouca and publishing label Acuarela. A single from the album, “Drifters” received its video premiere on MTV. Liz is a co-writer, guitarist and singer in Kissing Is A Crime, whose debut 7” EP Your Secrets Are Safe With Me and debut self-titled 12” will be released on Don Giovanni Records in 2016 and 2017 respectively. She is also a guitarist and other in Sheer Pluck, an ensemble of plucked string instruments based in Queens, NY, directed by William Anderson, was a member of the New York City Guitar Orchestra and studied sitar with Ikhlaq Hussain.
Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1993, she began playing electric guitar at age 9, writing songs at age 14, and started classical guitar studies at age 18 in college. She graduated Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School as an instrumental pianist major. She is currently working on her debut solo album. Her latest song, “Ridge” is available for streaming. Besides music, Liz enjoys outdoor activities, reading, movies, and playing 4-square.
